Valentin Rilliet

栾天明

b. 1996
Currently lives and works in Zürich, CH.

Valentin Rilliet is a visual artist working primarily in painting. His practice draws on mythologies, popular tales, and symbolism to create images shaped by ambiguous narratives and ghostly, anachronistic figures. Engaging with both Western and Eastern art histories, he approaches his bicultural heritage not as something to resolve but as a productive source of tension.

Working through a lens of magical realism, Rilliet’s compositions evoke historical echoes while obscuring their origins, prompting viewers to move between the familiar and the uncertain. By blending the fictional with the documentary, his images suggest events marked by the past yet resistant to singular interpretation—forming a pictorial dialogue that questions how histories are constructed and recalled.
